What is Yin Yoga?
Yin yoga is a practice of long-held floor poses that encourage deep muscles relaxation and targets the joints, ligaments, and connective tissues to increase flexibility. Yin yoga draws on the traditions of Hatha yoga so the poses may look familiar but the practice is very different from a typical Hatha or Vinyasa practice. A 60-minute class may only include 6-10 poses and allows the practitioner time and space to sit in stillness and explore their edges. Sequencing often focuses on the subtle energies of the body working to open the meridians or chakras (energy pathways) to restore the flow of chi or prana (life force energy), restoring a sense of balance in the mind and the body. Yin yoga can be a deeply personal, introspective, and healing practice with many physical and mental health benefits.
